Equine Muscle Works

Treatment

Each treatment begins with a movement evaluation. We will observe the movement patterns and positioning of your horse as well as watch for areas of increased tightness. It does not matter if this is the first or the tenth appointment, each session begins with this evaluation. We do not expect your horse to look exactly the same as they did on a previous day, so each appointment is approached with fresh eyes.
We may ask you to walk and trot your horse through a variety of patterns to observe the quality of motion in all three planes of movement.

MFR: each session will begin with the horse in a stall, cross-tied or sometimes just loose in a paddock. Based on what was observed during the evaluation portion I will select where to begin and with what technique. I am constantly checking in to the horse to assess response and tolerance. Holds are slow, gentle and prolonged. Releases can last 5+ minutes and no two releases are exactly alike. I will also provide you with stretches or exercises to assist your horse with sustaining range and comfort after treatment.

After the treatment we can discuss stretches, exercises, rest periods (if needed) and other services that may benefit your horse.

Red light: EMW offers the use of red light during sessions if needed. Benefits of red light include: DNA/RNA synthesis, ATP production, edema management, decreased inflammation and increased mitochondrial function to name a few. This is an excellent adjunct to myofascial work.

Microcurrent: the leg saver drives a small, effective waveform into a specific area and can assist the healing process from the cellular level. It is area specific and treatments last 1+ hours. It is worn in a harness system, so your horse can wear it and move around comfortably during the treatment.

PEMF: "High powered PEMF devices for horses generate results at an accelerated rate and can be easily adjusted for optimal level of penetration. PEMF promotes cellular exercise, which increases circulation, blood oxygenation, and helps the body recovery naturally, while reducing inflammation, and, relieving pain. Using MagnaWave sends a pulsating charge through tissues to provide energy to large focal areas like joints and major muscle groups. Penetration of the charge can be up to 16 to 18 inches into the equine body." (magnawavepemf.com)

EMW also offers equine sports massage and specialized body work in addition to myofascial release. Contact us to discuss which options will work best to suit the needs of your horse.
